|
IMDB rating: 6.70 Plot: Red Doors tells the story of the Wongs, a bizarrely dysfunctional Chinese-American family living in the New York suburbs. Ed Wong has just retired and plots to escape his mundane life. However, the tumultuous, madcap lives of his three rebellious daughters change his plans. The eldest daughter, Samantha, is an ambitious businesswoman in Manhattan who suddenly gets cold feet about her upcoming marriage when she runs into an old high school flame. Julie, the shy middle sister, finds her life as a studious medical student turned upside down when she falls for a movie starlet visiting the hospital. Katie, the youngest sister, is a disaffected high school senior who engages in a continually escalating and dangerous prank war with her longtime neighbor and nemesis, Simon. Ultimately, Ed’s disappearance compels each daughter to examine her own understanding of the role and connection she has to the family. At the same time, the Wongs learn to live their own lives outside the invisible fences of their home. |

What do I do when this employer is trying to make me still feel obligated to complete a task, when I quit.?
I was hired by this man who needed a Admin/PA and I only sent my resume because his advertisement showed that it was a chance to grow with a company and it offered benefits, paid vacation/sick days etc. He is in "Australia" (and said he’ll be there for a few weeks on business) and it has been a few weeks and just recently he said that he’s going to send a cashiers check via UPS courier and that I need to go to my bank and cash the check and then take my pay out of it and then send the amounts to this couple in the UK (this couple is supposedly run an orphanage) via western union money in minutes. His email immediately made me uncomfortable and all what I saw is red flags. So, I don’t want any part of this even if by chance this is all legal, I told him that I had another job opportunity and that I am going to take that instead and I told him good luck. He emailed me back, "kindly get the needful done before leaving." He didn’t have me fill out a W-2, 9 or 1099 for self employed. He hasn’t even paid me either so I don’t feel obligated to even continue this nonsense. He didn’t even answer my question if he’s back from Australia yet. So shady. I’m not too sure how to handle this situation because of course my resume has my address on it and I don’t want a crazy person waiting for me outside or bother my family! I of course only have his name and he said he’s hard of hearing so he doesn’t talk on the phone. I want to email him back but I know that leaves more open doors for him to contact me again. Any suggestions in how to handle this situation. Right now I’m going to ignore his emails. If he sent me anything I was going to send it back, or say it’s not me etc.
I didn’t dare give him my ssn. Yes, thanks ryan555 I already feel like a kook, I deserve the rub-ins I know. Thanks Dusty. I will inform my bank and watch the accounts. No, I have already printed everything (emails, even the job post on monster). I think I might have to ask my aunt who is a cop and unfortunately get her involved.
It’s a scam.
But, if he does have your address and sends you a cashiers check, it’s not fake and you haven’t signed anything….cash it. Not a damn thing he can do about it.

How did you think this was anything but a scam?

So far you know its’ a scam - any money order that you get - you can deposit into your bank account and your bank will call you in about 10 working days, and tell you that they are forgeries! What is sad, is that you thought that this was a "job opportunity" - you’ve given this crook enough information about you - that an attack on your credit may be attempted. By that I mean that with your name/address and SS# - new accounts may appear in your name. Do not delete any correspondence - but go ahead and print them up to show Police Department, and file a complaint.

Wow, did you fall for a scam! First off, be thankful that those red flags went up and you didn’t get any deeper in this than you already have. He’s trying to guilt you into something that is going to cost you alot of money and grief. That’s what scam artists do. The fact that he presented himself as someone who supports an orphanage I’m sure played on your heart strings, which is another thing that scam artists do! When someone wants you to cash a check and send on part of that money somewhere else, that’s a dead give-away of a scam.
What I would do is gather up all the communications you have had with him and take it to the police, the BBB, and Homeland Security. Those services can look up his URL and will be able to tell where his communications to you actually have been coming from. From there, you can also find out who is registered to that location and you can file a restraining order. Hopefully just ending all correspondence will show him that you’ve figured out his scam and he will leave you alone in hopes that his scam doesn’t get revealed and he gets busted for it.
DO NOT CASH ANY CHECKS FROM HIM! They will most likely bounce and cost you fees. Definitely don’t send any money to the UK for this supposed "orphanage". That will come right out of your pocket too. Cut your losses and leave this situation absolutely alone as far as communicating with him. Keep your doors always locked, even when you’re home, be aware of your surroundings, and report anything you find suspicious.
I hope that you take my advice and that things don’t escalate to be a crazy situation. Just make sure to make the proper authorities aware of what’s going on and keep your eyes open.
